Linee di ricerca

Our laboratory carries out research in cell and molecular biology applied to oncology and regenerative medicine. In particular, we are working on two tumours: pleural mesothelioma (PM) and Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). PM is a rare but very aggressive tumour of the pleura. We are studying the role of a serum protein, alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT), in tumourigenesis and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in the diagnosis and prognosis of this tumour. MCC is also a rare but very aggressive tumour of the skin, caused in 80% of cases by the Merkel cell polyoma virus (MCPyV). Studies in this case are focused on finding new therapeutic strategies to treat this tumour. Regenerative medicine research is investigating new biomaterials to regenerate bone tissue.
