LINEE DI RICERCA

Genetic and molecular mapping in crops. Development, chromosome localization, and mapping of molecular markers (AFLP, SSR, EST-SSR, SNP) to obtain integrated maps of loci coding for morphological, physiological and agronomic traits.

Identification and characterization of loci for quantitative traits (QTLs). Identification of molecular markers associated to bio-agronomic traits (high technological and nutritional quality of wheat, resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, yield components). Marker assisted selection.

Genetics of crop adaptability in marginal areas. Constitution of durum wheat cultivars adapted to the environmental conditions of Mediterranean area.

Genome structure and philogenetic relationships among cultivated wheats and related wild species;

Characterization and cultivar identification in crops by means of biochemical and molecular markers. Row traceability in cereals.

Identification of candidate genes in wheat for functional genomics approaches

Intergeneric gene transfer from “alien” species to cultivated ones; isolation of resistance genes in different crops;

Genetic transformation of plant species. Expression of useful genes in cultivated wheats.

TILLING approach for the identification of allelic variants in functional genes.
