LINEE DI RICERCA

- Biochemical and molecular characterization of enzymes secreted by fungi including fungal plant pathogens. They are studied as priming inducer in planta, as factors in plant cell wall degradation and in their industrial applications. Their contribution to fungal pathogenicity is determined by gene disruption experiments. Selected enzymes are expressed in heterologous systems for massive production.
- Selection of natural and synthesized molecules to control plant diseases. Peptides and plant phenolic compounds of different origin are among the molecules assayed for their antifungal and antibacterial activity. Trials are performed to compare plant protection provided by these compounds with that obtained with commercial pesticides. A transcriptomic approach is adopted to identify the fungal cellular targets of these molecules.
- Application of proteomics technologies to environmental and agricultural research. Proteomics is aimed at describing the patterns in which proteins are expressed in various states of growth, development, health, stress, disease, or technological manipulations. Proteomic tools are currently being used to study: 1) the allergenic potential of plant food; 2) protein expression in root plasma membrane after stimulation by humic substances; 3) changes in the grape berry proteome in postharvesting; 4) the plant-soil-microbe interaction
